Nachos the Size of the Tetons

Check out some of the best eats in Jackson, Wyoming!

I'll be candid here, I didn't have high expectations for the food in Wyoming. Growing up on the coast and a 20 minute drive from Boston, I've always been surrounded with wicked good food. To me Wyoming is in the middle of no where, so I didn't expect much beyond some good burgers and maybe some BBQ. I have to admit I was wrong.

The Trapper at Signal Mountain Lodge

We came to the Grand Tetons to visit my friend Abby from college. One of our first nights we went to the restaurant she worked at in the park, The Trapper at Signal Mountain Lodge. Again, I wasn't expecting much. Abby has a tendency to overexaggerate; I thought her praise of the restaurant was just a way to get me to come in and hang out while she served.

However, the food was delicious. With massive portions. The nachos Jake and I split were the size of the Tetons! That alone could've been our meal. For entrees we ordered the smash burger and pulled pork (extra BBQ sauce on the side) with sweet potatoes fries ( a must). Everything was amazing. I was overwhelmed with how much food we had (and that's saying something for me). They also serve a bunch of local beers, and fun cocktails! We got a beer flight to try a few of the different local brews — I highly recommend.

Of course Abby cajoled us into dessert — wasn't hard to twist my arm. We split the huckleberry crème brûlée. I've been to Paris twice and have had crème brûlée from a plethora of restaurants, but that was some of the best I've ever had — no cap. The top was caramelized to perfection, and the huckleberry compote was the perfect accent to the delicious middle.

If you go to the Grand Tetons you have to stop in the Trapper. It's the perfect spot to view the mountains after a long day of hiking. Be sure to stop in and say hi to Abby!

Thai Food

I wasn't expecting to go to the middle of the U.S. to find some amazing Thai food, but Jackson really stepped up. We went to two different places in downtown: Teton Tiger and Thai Me Up! Both were absolutely delicious, but my favorite was Thai Me Up. Something about their yellow curry and a cool beer hit different, or maybe it was the afternoon that made me ravenous. Either way if you're in Jackson you should hit up one of these places.

Cowboy Coffee

One of our favorite spots in town was Cowboy Coffee. It was always popping, with people constantly coming in and hardly coming out! It was a small little space, crowded with people working on laptops and couples coming in before the head to the mountains.

It was a great place to get some work done (stellar wifi), and enjoy a wicked good latte. If you don't need to get any work done, I recommend grabbing a cup to go and walking around the square!

Moo's Gourmet Ice Cream

Y'all know I have a thing for ice cream, and Moo's did not disappoint. The creamery has a ton off funky flavors, from chocolate cabernet, to prickly pear. Our favorite was the Huckleberry. It was not too sweet, but highlighted the delicious flavor of the berries. The portions are also massive! Be sure to bring your appetite if you go to Moo's!

Downtown Jackson is adorable, with rustic architecture, eclectic touches like elk antler arches (you'll just have to wait till you see that yourself), and tons of amazing food options. We didn't get a chance to try them all, so if you stop in somewhere new please share your comida vibe!
