the story behind Comida Vibes

In 2019, during my junior year of college, I studied abroad in Sevilla, Spain. I thought I was signing up for a semester overseas. What I didn’t expect was how much it would change me.

Living abroad pushed me outside of my comfort zone in ways I never imagined. I navigated a new country, a new language, and plenty of unexpected moments along the way. Some experiences were incredible, some were chaotic, but all of them helped me grow. That semester gave me a confidence I didn’t have before.

It also sparked something else. A deep love for travel and food.

Everything felt richer there. The pastries were flakier, the gelato creamier, and the tomatoes somehow sweeter. Meals weren’t rushed. They were experiences. Sitting in crowded cafés, wandering through markets, and trying dishes I had never heard of became some of my favorite memories.

I wanted to share all of it with my friends and family back home. So I started posting the food I was discovering and the places I was exploring. That’s how @comida_vibes was born.

The name comes from the Spanish word for food, comida. When my friends and I lived in Spain, we constantly switched between English and Spanish. It became our everyday language, a mix of home and adventure. Adding a Spanish word felt like the perfect nod to the place where this whole journey started.

The “vibe” part started as a joke. My friend Liv would always ask about the vibes. The second I took a bite of something she would ask, “Vibes?” Basically asking if it was actually good.

Soon it became our way of describing great food. We’d say things like, “That gelato was a comida vibe.” Now my friends and family say it too. They send me photos and recipes saying, “This looks like a comida vibe.”

What started as a way to share my semester abroad turned into something much bigger. Comida Vibes is now where I document the places I travel, the meals that stand out, and the small local spots that deserve attention.

Because some of the best memories are made around a table in a place you’ve never been before.

And there are a lot of comida vibes out there waiting to be found.

cheers!

to more comida vibes :)
