Let's talk Gelato! In Pt 2 of this series we'll take a look at some of my favorite ice cream and gelato places in Europe.

In the first part of this series, My Favorite Ice Cream Places Worldwide I talked about my favorite U.S. creamery, Holy Cow! This blog is about going to take a jump across the Atlantic and share my favorite ice cream places in Europe!

Murphy’s Ice Cream in Dingle, Ireland

Murphy’s Ice Cream was founded in Dingle, Ireland in 2002, “with the goal of making the best ice cream in the world” (Murphysicecream.ie). I must say they have succeeded. Murphy’s Ice Cream is indeed my favorite ice cream place in the world.

So what makes it so special? The quality. Murphy's Ice Cream uses milk from the rare, indigenous breed of Kerry cow, and locally sources ingredients for their flavors. They also make flavors unique to Ireland, like Irish Brown Bread and Kiernan Cookie!

My favorite though is their Sea Salt ice cream. I know it sounds funky, but it’s the best ice cream I’ve ever had. They make their own salt by collecting sea water in Dingle from Bín Bán beach. From there it’s filtered and boiled to make the ice cream. There are no words to describe how amazing this tastes. I would always order the Sea Salt and another flavor; the salt would bring out the flavors in the other ice cream, making everything taste richer and bolder!

Murphy’s also has the best employees! Every time we stopped in they treated us like we were family, and always offered us samples of every flavor as many times as we wanted. I can’t wait to go back to Ireland and see my love Murphy.

Gabriele Italia in Vico Equense, Italy

When I studied abroad, I ate a lot of gelato. A lot. I’m sure you can tell that I’m not one to hold myself back from things. Especially food. So when I found Gabriele in Italy, you know I went all out. Located on the Sorrento Peninsula in the town of Vico Equense, Gabriele has won countless awards for their gelato and local products. It’s a little slice of heaven.

What sets them apart in my eyes is the brioche bun. Yes I said bun. You can order a rich and creamy gelato set in a buttery and fluffy brioche. There is no competition for cones when you have a brioche. As they would say, “that’s amore.”

Greedy Goat in London, United Kingdom

The Greedy Goat was a homerun. When I was wandering around Borough Market in London (that will be another blog), I found a cute ice cream stand. You know me, I was curious and went to check it out. Turns out the ice cream is made from goat milk. Well, I was sold. How many times have you stumbled upon goat milk ice cream? I can tell you for myself, one.

When I walked up the server greeted me with a big smile and offered to give me samples of anything I’d like to try. Of course I tried a sample or 2 (ok it might’ve been 3)! She was so nice, constantly calling me “darling” or “love.” I ended up ordering honeycomb ginger chocolate chip and their milk flavors. Delicious. They were so light but flavorful. It was otherworldly. I didn’t know how badly I needed goat milk ice cream till Greedy Goat!
