My Ideal Somerville Saturday: Movement & Eating Local

My ideal Saturday in Somerville starts with a sunny morning and an easy walk to yoga. It’s the perfect way to ease into the weekend, moving a little and starting the day feeling grounded. After class, I treat myself to a coffee or matcha from one of my favorite neighborhood cafés and take a few minutes to enjoy it outside while the day gets going.
From there, I head over to the Union Square Farmers Market. I love wandering through the stalls, seeing what’s in season, and picking up a few things that look especially good that week. Fresh produce, maybe some flowers, and usually a treat I didn’t plan on buying.
Once my tote bag is full, I walk back to my apartment to drop everything off. Then I stop by the library to pick up a new book before heading back toward Union Square for lunch outside at Bow Market. On a warm day, it’s the perfect spot to sit outside and enjoy the energy of the neighborhood. On cooler days I will pop inside my favorite sushi place Fuki. They have a fantastic sushi special where you can get 3 maki rolls and a miso soup for $16!
After lunch, I make my way over to Aeronaut Brewing Company for a beer. It’s a great place to relax for a bit and soak in the laid back weekend vibe. They often have live music to enjoy on the patio.
Before heading home, I like to take a walk up to Prospect Hill Park to watch the sunset. The view over the city from the top is one of my favorite in Somerville.
Then I head back to my apartment and cook dinner using whatever I picked up at the farmers market that morning. It’s a simple end to the day, but the perfect way to wrap up a Saturday spent enjoying the neighborhood.
