5 Places You Must Eat at in London

Let’s go to London, and I'll share some of my favorite food stops!

I’m sure you’ve heard that England isn’t known for their food. Fish and chips are delicious, but can get old fast. Mushy peas are absolutely disgusting (sorry, I said it). Although they might not be known for their local dishes, they are a cultural hub for all different types of food.

In this post I’ll share some of my favorites from London that you have to check out:

Farmers Market at Borough Market

Borough Market was my favorite find in London. It has dozens of stalls that sell produce, baked goods, olive oil, spices, cured meats, fish and honey. They also serve up prepared food like hot sandwiches, paella and donuts.

I wish I had time to try one of everything. Our favorites were the:

  • Mushroom Risotto

  • White truffle olive oil

  • Salt beef and fries

  • Goats milk ice cream

I would spend hours there, wandering the stalls and trying one of everything. Make sure to take a bite of whatever you can when you stop in Borough Market.

Lunch at Medz Corner Food Court

It’s true that sometimes the best things are those you don’t plan. After a long morning of walking across London, in the surprising heat my sister and I were famished. We were at that point where we needed food, or we were going to throw hands. Luckily we stumbled upon a little cafeteria in Kensington that had a bunch of different options for us to choose.

Medz Corner Food Court was the holy grail for my sister and I. It had everything from burgers, tacos, to sushi. Pretty much whatever type of food we wanted, we could get. They even had beer on tap, wine and cocktails. All tucked away in a hole in the wall in Kensington.

We split delicious lamb shawarma and Chinese rice. It was everything we needed and more. I also got mango bubble tea and caused an explosion. I’ve never had bubble tea before and thus had no idea how to open it. Of course I asked my sister to record me, thinking it would be a cute vid. Nope. Wrong. Tea went everywhere, splashing my face and dress. Honestly it was hilarious, and now I know how to properly puncture my straw.

Tea time at The Ivy

One of the things I enjoyed most in London was high tea! Now I don’t think Brits regularly sip tea, while munching on scones and tiny sandwiches. However, you’ve got to enjoy it at least once.

My sister and I went to the Ivy by Tower Bridge. They have a few locations in London, and apparently they're a hot spot for celebrity sightings. It’s no wonder because the inside is beautifully decorated with fun patterns, colors and flowers. And the food…duh.

Afternoon tea was a must for us, and why not make it a bit bubbly? We were on vacation so of course we chose the Champagne Afternoon Tea and it was divine. We each got 3 tea sandwiches, warm fruit scones with clotted cream, fresh strawberries and strawberry preserve.

Oh wait but there’s more. We also had 4 desserts: chocolate mousse served in a plant pot, Madeleine cake with lemon curd, red velvet raspberry cupcake and a mini strawberry milkshake. Then we got to wash it all down with delicious tea and crisp champagne.

Italian at Ave Mario

Ave Mario is one of my favorite restaurants I’ve been to. The interior design inside the restaurant is insane; it’s like old school Italian on acid. That’s the only way I can think to describe it. The walls are covered in old school Italian memorabilia like crucifixes, old photographs and posters. Then it’s decked out in bright colors, neon signs, mirrors and red velvet upholstery. It’s beautiful, unusual and I loved it!

Lettuce not forget about that food! The food takes modern twists on traditional Italian meals, constantly changing the menu with the season. I got the truffle pasta, and would travel straight back to London for that meal. For dessert I got the boujee café, sampling 3 different desserts. My favorite was the classic tiramisu. It melted in your mouth and tasted like a little spoonful of Italy.

Fondue at Haugen

Located right next to Queen Elizabeth Olympic park you can stop in for lunch at Haugen after shopping at the mall, riding the ArcelorMittal Orbit or swimming like an Olympian at the London Acquatics Centre. Walking up to the building you might mistake you’re in Sweden, with the light wood, wrapping the building in funky patterns. It’s architecture you don’t see often enough.

I didn’t know how badly I wanted fondue until I had it; my soul had apparently been craving fondue forever. The Haugen serves it up like a traditional alpine restaurant and has other classics as well like tartiflette and raclette. It was rich, salty, melty and scrumptious. It was everything. I loved every second of Haugen, from the design, food, drinks and of course the company.

I chose these 5 places because they’re all a little bit different, but all delicious. There are so many more wonderful restaurants in London to explore, if you happen to go please share some more comida vibes with me :)
